Home Wind Generator
47Home Wind Generator
We all like saving money and when you use solar and wind generators to power your home, you can really save some money. In this hub I wanted to show you some numbers that you can think about when you are considering a home wind generator. The prices of the materials and plans for building your own wind power generator have dropped dramatically. You can now build your own 1000 watt home made wind generator for under a hundred bucks. Compare that to the several thousand dollars you would have to spend a few years ago. It was still a wise investment back then because it only takes a few years for you to get a full return on your investment. Now, it's just about as no brainer as it can get.
Home Wind Generator Plans
So let's take a look at some of the math. I just mentioned a 1000 watt wind generator. That doesn't seem like a lot when you get your electricity bill and it's in kilowatts. 1000 watts is only 1 kilowatt. The first thing I want you to look at is your lightbulbs. If you have the standard 60 and 100 watt bulbs, you could power 10 - 100 watt bulbs or about 16 - 60 watt bulbs. How much energy could you save if you turned off 10 to 16 light bulbs in your house all day? That's the power you are generating with just one home wind generator.
And if you have started making other green changes in your home like switching to compact flourescent bulbs which require much less energy, your savings are even better. A 60 watt normal bulbs runs on 13 watt CFL bulb. You could power about 77 - 13 watt CFLs for your house. Do you even have 77 light bulbs in your home? Think about that.
And that's just one home wind generator. And it can potentially power all the lights in your house. How much could you save if you installed 2 or 3 or 5? Considering they only cost around a hundred dollars each to build and they are not unsightly, I would build as many as could fit in my backyard.
As you go through your house today, take a look at as many appliances as you have and see if you can see the wattage they use. Think about what it costs to run that one appliance and then think about how many appliances you could power with clean renewable wind energy. What would your electric bill look like then?
